Murder and platform in Hamachi The Psychotic Killer

Very seldom do games let you play as the villain.

While there are titles which gives you the moral freedom to do so, that little cricket in your head (sometimes referred to as a “conscience”) tells you to stick with that society deems acceptable and play the good guy.

Hamachi The Psychotic Killer by 19-year-old developer Gavin (known on Game Jolt as ytGothic) is not one of those games. Rather than appealing to your higher sense of morality, the game puts you in the shoes of Hamachi – a character who looks like a piece of tofu wearing shoes.

Unbeknownst to passersby, Hamachi isn’t as harmless as he seems. He’s actually a serial killer who delights in turning living things into non-living things; mostly by the means of an axe. Born from Gavin’s own suppressed feelings (this isn’t even a joke), Hamachi has you literally carving a way through various levels; killing innocent bystanders and evading the law.

Taking inspiration from classic platformers, Hamachi can also hop, skip, and wall jump his way through more dangerous terrain. Think Mega Man, only instead of shooting Mavericks with a pea shooter, you’re chopping innocents with a crude medieval weapon.

While most levels have you killing hapless creatures, a select few are more akin to Sonic The Hedgehog and require you to do some fast platforming.

Rather than collecting rings and getting to the boss at the end of the lane however, you’re doing something infinitely more important – escaping the cops. This requires quick thinking rather than aimless murder as you blast through the levels like someone who knows they’re going to be serving a life sentence should they get caught.

It isn’t drastically different gameplay-wise, but considering you’re committing genocide from a different moral standpoint, it’s easy to see how fine the line between good and bad really is depending on who you’re killing and running away from.

Hamachi The Psychotic Killer has bloody levels, a retro soundtrack, and can be played for whatever you think the game is worth over on Game Jolt.
