Compete with friends and be the tastiest pastry in Cake Bash

“Everybody loves cake; cakes have layers!”

This line from Shrek holds true even to this day. Only a diabetic ogre could hate cake. It’s filled with happiness, frosting, and absurd amounts of sugar which take you higher than Princess Fiona’s high notes before crashing you down like Shrek Forever After at the box office.

So what if there was a game which lets you play as a revered piece of cake?

Cake Bash, the first title from High Tea Frog, lets you do just that and then some. This local party game drops up to four players into a variety of arenas where they can duke it out and discover who is the tastiest treat of all.

As a match begins, players roam around the level and douse themselves in toppings. Marshmallows, sprinkles, M&Ms – these add-ons make you more visually appetizing to whatever is going to eventually consume you at the end of the match. But one can only eat so much cake before they explode, so the goal of the game’s flagship mode, “Get Tasty”, is to be the top topping-ed cake after the timer ends.

The other three players won’t take this sitting down and will stop at nothing to become number one as well. In addition to standard punches, slaps, and uppercuts, numerous weapons and environmental hazards can be used to either whack toppings off of the competition or make them less appetizing. The only thing worse than a cake with no toppings is a cake dipped in mud and bird drool, so it’s in your best interest to take out your rivals while making sure you are the tastiest piece on the chopping block.

Aside from the scrapping of Get Tasty, other modes like the co-op “Fruity Clafoutis” (which has you filling a flan with different ingredients) are planned for the game when it launches sometime in 2019.

Cake Bash will be available for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and the PC via Steam.
